Spinal Decompression Therapy

A Holistic, Non-Surgical Spinal Treatment

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical therapy performed at Kayal Pain & Spine Center that can help relieve pain and other symptoms caused by a number of spinal issues. A few of the conditions that can be improved with spinal decompression therapy include:

  • Herniated discs
  • Bulging discs
  • Pinched nerves
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal stenosis

Spinal decompression therapy reverses compression on the spinal discs in the neck or lower back caused by injury or chronic spinal stress. When discs are compressed, they get pushed out of place, which can cause severe pain through inflammation or, in rare cases, touching a nerve.

Compressed discs usually don’t heal on their own. The body reacts to compressed discs by continuing to put pressure on the impacted area, even in a resting state. But when compressed discs become decompressed, it reduces pressure and allows nutrients and oxygen to return to the discs. This rush of nutrients and oxygen can help your body heal more effectively.

What to expect before, during and after spinal decompression

When you undergo spinal decompression therapy at Kayal Pain & Spine Center, you can expect a series of 30- to 45-minute treatments performed over a four- to six-week period. You will be placed in a harness, then asked to lie down on a specialized table and be positioned for maximize results. The exact positioning will be determined based on the treatment area. MRI scans may be used in advance to identify the ideal treatment location.

The spinal decompression table is controlled by a computer that moves back and forth, releasing tension in the spine and decompressing the spinal discs. The therapy pulls discs back into their natural position, improving oxygen and blood flow to initiate the healing process.

Spinal decompression is a painless experience, although you might feel your spine decompressing during the therapy.

Benefits

Discover the advantages

Spinal decompression therapy can relieve neck pain and back pain caused by a variety of conditions. In some instances, you will experience immediate pain relief and feel lighter or taller.

In addition to immediate pain relief, spinal decompression creates a better healing environment for the spine, allowing the body to naturally reverse damage caused to the discs. This reversal can result in symptom relief over the longer term as the body heals itself.

Spinal decompression is favored by many people because it is a low-risk, pain-free, non-surgical therapy. It can be an excellent treatment option to try before surgical intervention, as many patients find the relief they are seeking with spinal decompression therapy. There are no side effects and you can continue with your everyday life in between treatments.

Kayal Pain & Spine Center’s award-winning team has extensive experience with spinal decompression therapy and can help you alleviate your back and neck pain using this simple, yet effective treatment.
