Replacing the hip joint may be the best solution when physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medication provide no relief for debilitating joint pain. Pain can be the result of fractures, arthritis and wear and tear breaking down the cartilage and bones in the hip. Total or partial hip replacement allows patients of all ages to return to a full, active lifestyle.
In an effort to reduce recovery times and improve outcomes for total hip replacement surgery, Kayal Orthopaedic Center combines two innovative procedures to replace your hip: robotic-assisted surgery and the direct anterior approach (DAA). The Mako robotic arm allows your surgeon to align and position your new hip with greater precision and control. It pairs the surgeon’s skill and judgment with the robotic arm’s control and accuracy. DAA is a minimally invasive procedure that can accelerate rehabilitation because your surgeon does not need to detach your muscles and tendons.
We also offer traditional total hip replacement surgery when it is the best course of treatment.
Your surgeon makes relatively small cuts to the side of the joint to remove damaged or diseased cartilage and bone, which are replaced with implants or artificial materials.
If only one part of the hip joint is damaged, a partial hip replacement may be the best treatment. This involves leaving the pelvic socket (acetabulum) intact, replacing only the femur head, and affixing a prosthetic device over the femur head to allow the joint to function smoothly.
