When you suffer from pain or injury to your fingers, hands, wrists, elbows or shoulders, it’s difficult—sometimes impossible—to function. Every movement makes you ache. Every task is harder to manage. The underlying cause could be an injury, fracture, disease or condition such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome or trigger finger. But the results are the same—debilitating pain or limited mobility.
Whether it’s a broken bone, broken wrist, dislocated shoulder, shattered elbow or other issue with your hand or upper extremities, the board-certified specialists at Kayal Orthopaedic Center have the training and expertise to guide you through the entire process—from diagnosis and treatment to surgery (if necessary) and recovery. Our experts understand the management of upper extremity conditions, including those affecting the fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
We believe that an informed patient is a happy and healthy patient. That’s why we encourage you to ask questions about your upcoming appointment or surgery. It’s also important to provide our team with any important medical records or personal information. To prep for an appointment and speed waiting time, visit our Patient Portal and download any necessary forms. Or, read more about your Pre-Op and Aftercare here.
We will guide you through the process, starting with your pre-op appointment and continuing every step of the way to your follow-up care. You will be given ample notice of the time you should check in on the day of your procedure. You also will be instructed on what to bring with you—and what to leave home. We will give you prescriptions to fill for any medication you need after your procedure. You’ll receive thorough post-op instructions and as many follow-up appointments as you need to help with your full recovery.
Dr. Kayal, a sports medicine specialist who treats tennis elbow and other sports-related problems, understands the value of quality treatment close to home. That’s why patients throughout Bergen County, in and near the New Jersey towns of Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Paramus, Westwood and Ridgewood, have convenient access to Dr. Kayal and his elite team.
We have specialists who are highly skilled in the latest surgical techniques of the upper extremity, including arthroscopic and open surgical joint replacement methods, tendon and ligament repairs or transfers, and nerve decompression. They also are thoroughly trained in conservative treatments, such as medications, injections, and physical therapy for conditions such as arthritis, sprains, and strains. Our specialists will explore the surgical and non-surgical options that are best for you. Many minimally invasive hand and upper extremity procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and rehabilitation is much faster than with traditional incisions. The small incisions used in arthroscopic surgery also reduce scarring.
Using a camera and specialized instruments, arthroscopic surgery uses tiny incisions and causes less trauma to the body, smaller scars, reduced blood loss, decreased need for pain medication, less time in the hospital and a faster recovery.
