During the treatment, your surgeon will send a small needle into the facet joint. Using contrast dye, your surgeon can confirm correct positioning of the needle into the facet joint.

The entire procedure may take up to 30 minutes. However, the injections only last a couple of minutes. Typically, you only need to undergo one or two rounds of injections to feel better.
Local anesthetic provides almost immediate pain relief. Some patients may notice an increase in pain in the days following the procedure. Increased pain is only temporary as the anesthetic wears off and until the cortisone (steroid) effect kicks in.
The following day after the procedure, we recommend that you take it easy. You can even track your symptoms and effects in a pain journal to monitor your progress. Keeping track of your health after any medical procedure is wise, as it helps doctors identify problems and intervene as needed.
