The ACL is a ligament that connects the femur (thighbone) to the tibia (shinbone). A physical examination, as well as an X-ray or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are used to diagnose an ACL tear that would require reconstruction.
If surgery is needed, Dr. Kayal and his board-certified surgeons perform arthroscopic ACL reconstruction through small incisions—reducing disturbance to the muscle and connective tissue. ACL surgery replaces the ligament with a substitute tendon graft to stabilize the knee and reduce or eliminate pain. The extent of the surgery may vary for patients who have suffered several knee injuries.
We believe that an informed patient is a happy and healthy patient. That’s why we encourage you to ask questions about your upcoming appointment or surgery. It’s also important to provide our team with any important medical records or personal information. To prep for an appointment and speed waiting time, visit our Patient Portal and download any necessary forms. Or, read more about your Pre-Op and Aftercare here.
ACL surgery can be performed arthroscopically, using small incisions that reduce scarring and expedite rehabilitation.
