Plus, 12 Tips for a Smooth Telemedicine Experience

We’re thrilled to announce that our doors have reopened at all locations within the Kayal Orthopaedic Center network.

We are here to serve all of your needs, including orthopaedics, pain management, rheumatology, spine issues, physical therapy, podiatry, chiropractic, diagnostic services and sports medicine in Bergen County, NJ.

We want to assure you that we are taking every precaution possible to keep you safe, including:

  • No-touch temperature checks and other screening at the front desk
  • Allowing a limited number of patients in our waiting rooms
  • Sanitizing exam rooms after every patient visit
  • Cleaning frequently with a major focus on patient check-in tablets, countertops, door handles, bathroom facilities, seat arms and all points of common contact
  • Providing increased signage around our facilities
  • Asking staff to stay home if they have a cough, cold or fever or if they believe they have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus

Pointers if You Prefer a Virtual Appointment

We continue to offer telemedicine appointments for those who prefer this approach for their care. It is new—and maybe a little scary—for some people. So we’re providing tips to help you prepare for your videoconferencing appointment. Knowing what to expect will help you navigate this safe, easy-to-use and convenient way of receiving the care you need.

How it Works

All you need is a computer, tablet or smartphone in order for us to arrange your appointment using FaceTime (iPhone users only), Skype or Zoho Meeting. If you don’t have a smart device, we will be happy to handle your appointment over the telephone. Call us at 844.777.0910 to schedule your appointment today.

Telemedicine has proven to be a very effective way to treat many orthopaedic conditions and problems. These video visits with your Kayal Orthopaedic Center specialist allow us to manage your symptoms and even diagnose and treat many issues. Since the pandemic, telemedicine is becoming more and more widely accepted by most insurance companies, if not all, but you should check with your provider to make sure your appointment will be covered.

If this process is new to you, here are some helpful guidelines:

  1. If you haven’t used FaceTime, Skype or Zoho, you might want to practice with a family member or friend several days before your appointment. This will help you feel comfortable answering the call and talking on camera. Your family member or friend can give you pointers, such as if your voice is too loud or too soft and the camera position and lighting are adequate.
  2. Make a list of the questions you want to ask. Keep a list of your prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements handy, too.
  3. Before your appointment, we may ask you to check your temperature, weight and/or blood pressure (if you have a monitor). Write them down and keep them nearby for the appointment.
  4. Choose a comfortable setting where you’ll be able to talk to your doctor without noise or interruptions.
  5. Make sure your TV and other sources of background noise are turned off.
  6. Keep any sources of natural or man-made light in front of you or at your side so you can be seen clearly. If the light is behind you, your face will be dark.
  7. If possible, prop up your phone or tablet in a stable manner instead of holding it.
  8. Make sure your phone or tablet is charged up.
  9. Set a reminder so you don’t forget about your upcoming appointment.
  10. Make sure you’re near your smart device or phone a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time. If you get a call at the appropriate time from an unfamiliar number, answer it. Your doctor could be using a home phone or cell phone instead of the office number.
  11. Your specialist will ask you questions, including whether your symptoms have changed since your last appointment. You also may be asked to stand, walk or perform specific movements such as bending your arms, legs, elbows or knees.
  12. Your doctor will provide you with a treatment plan and specific recommendations. He or she also may prescribe new medications or adjust existing meds. Write everything down and repeat them back to avoid any miscommunication. We will contact your pharmacy to order prescriptions and will mail you a copy of your treatment plan along with any orders for blood work or tests.

Your care team will do everything we can to make this process as smooth as possible. During your appointment, your doctor will be in a space designed to protect your privacy so you should feel comfortable speaking freely. Telemedicine calls are not recorded.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call us at 844.777.0910 or reach out through our website. We are committed to providing you with exceptional care, including sports medicine in Glen Rock, NJ.
