Treatment of Spinal Disorders
We’ve Got Your Back
From neck to lower back, spinal disorders are among the most common and most painful conditions that patients may experience. These conditions have the potential to limit nearly every aspect of a person’s life, causing disabling pain and reduced range of motion.
Neck injuries and neck conditions can occur in athletes and others who place regular physical strain on their spine. Neck pain is also common in aging patients, as wear-and-tear and poor posture lead to spinal degeneration.
Low back pain can stem from a wide range of causes. Some patients have a genetic component to their condition. Others may suffer a mechanical problem. Most often, lower back conditions are caused by injuries, or the wear-and-tear of aging.
Some neck and back pain resolves on its own. When it doesn’t, in mild cases, conservative treatments, such as rest and stretching, may minimize back and neck pain. Limited or altered activity, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and exercise, bracing or neck supports, and steroidal injections are among the options. For more serious disorders, surgical intervention may be necessary.
