TRAUMA/FRACTURE CARE: broken arm

NJ arm surgeon Robert A. Kayal specializes in the treatment of orthopedic conditions and trauma, and is an expert in the treatment of broken arms. With any type of fracture, including fractures of the arm, there can be a great deal of variation from one injury to the next. The severity of the injury dictates the urgency of care and type of treatments required. Dr. Kayal and the orthopedic surgeons at Kayal Orthopaedic Center, PC specialize in diagnosing fractures and providing a treatment plan tailored specifically for each patient.

Symptoms and Causes of Broken Arms

The bones in the arm are among the most commonly fractured bones by both children and adults. There are a number of different fracture types, and Dr. Kayal and his team can expertly treat them all. Common arm injuries include:

  • Compound (open) fractures
  • Closed fractures
  • Displaced fractures
  • Comminuted fractures
  • Greenstick fractures
  • Buckle fractures

The symptoms of broken arms, and their severity, depend on the type of fracture experienced. General symptoms of broken arms include pain (often extreme), swelling, weakness, decreased sensation and movement, and a possible open wound or deformity.

The vast majority of broken arms result from traumatic events. Incidents such as falls, sports injuries and vehicle accidents are the most common causes. In addition to these types of events, conditions such as osteoperosis may also predispose patients to a fracture or bone trauma.

Treatments for Broken Arms

The orthopedists at Kayal Orthopaedic Center, PC are regional experts in trauma and fracture care. The physicians diagnose the problem by conducting physical examinations and utilizing state-of-the-art x-ray imaging. In some cases, CT scans may also be used to obtain more detailed images. If these diagnostic tools indicate an arm fracture, Dr. Kayal and his team determine the best treatment plan for the patient, considering the type and severity of the fracture. Treatment options include setting the bone, immobilization, surgery, and the use of medication to minimize pain and inflammation.

With convenient office locations in Ridgewood and Franklin Lakes, the NJ board-certified orthopedists at Kayal Orthopaedic Center, PC treat patients from Bergen County, Passaic County, Essex County and Hudson County.
